Trellis for the Roses in the entrance garden

My entrance garden towards the street had only gravel when I moved in, but as you know, I now have a lawn with a new Magnolia and flowerbeds with clombing Roses and more-
It's growing quickly now and my new Roses start to need new trellis to grow on, I have now prepared for them.

To the right is the street and beyong that, the stream. On this wall are my plans to have climbing roses on each end growing up towards the bedroom window and Peonies between with a tree Peony in the middle. To the far left is the entrance to my house, at the "formal" garden.
There was only gravel here as I said. I put 5 pallet collars here and digged a deeper hole where the big plants where going
The climbing Rose New Dawn that I planted in October are a bit slow starter, but getting there
In between I filling up with perennials, mostly Nepeta of different kinds

Also Maiden Pink/Backnejlika
Behind the Maiden Pink You can see the other climbing rose: "Climbing Iceberg", a rose it took me a while to find, bit got it from "Trägår´n i Söderfors" in the end
China Peony "Hong Zhu Ying Yo"
To fill out I also put in some Physalis Peruviana/Kapkrusbär
Most of the Hollyhocks/Stockrosor I planted along the road did not like it there, so I moved them here instead
It's getting greener by the day :D

Along the barn with the stonewall the Climbing Rose Ilse Krohn loving is and growing fast, alreay on the trellis. On the barn door did I put a black flower container with cuttings of a larger wild Pelargonium Australe I bought a few years ago, that will cascade down
All three Climbing Roses are blooming all season, which was a demand from me.
On the other side of the door where a pallet collar is do I have the little Lilac, Isops and the Wild Honeysuckle/Caprifol and some pots with Pelargoniums

One of them is the beautiful "Francis James which will be the last photo from this part of the garden for this time
Hope You all had a good weekend, Per!

Mid Easter Report from my garden

It's amazing weather and Art weekend (Konst på väg) at the opening of the season here in our village this Easter!
Great to see all galleries, Inn, Café, Garden Nursery, church, Orangerie and the village full of strolling people. There is 8 galleries open here this weekend.

Besides being busy with that, there is still a lot of time for the garden now when the sun going up at 5.14 and down 20.20. Last afternoon we had as most +22C in our microclimate here in Lövstabruk.

Here is whats going on just now:
It rained on Friday, much needed, it will kickstart the growth, so I had to burn of the dead grass in the rough area
After the rain I could start to see whats going on in my woodland, and see a lot of Lillies coming up. I will not bother to much about this area this year, just check whats going on.
The Climbing Rose "New Dawn" coming quickly with small delicate leaves
Close to "New Dawn" by the South west house wall have I now also planted the Chinese Peony "Hong Zhu Ying Yu" (Jade with Red Pearl)
And in the Half Shadow flower bed the Black Snake Root/Höstsilverax "Brunette" found a home
Next to my favorite Birch/Björk: Ornäs
I loooove the leaves on this Swedish Birch

My belowed apple "Signe Tillisch" are crowning the garden on the highest point. Already after being in the soil for a few days the Flowerbuds start to show.
(I did not have poles to put down around her, but will fix that today)

I don't really know why I got this fast growing Danish braided Willow, but anyway, I planted it in the lowest point of the garden where the water was staying last this spring, since it love wet around it's roots.
Around it I put two Bergenias that hopefully will cover the area around the tree pretty quick.

There is 2 more days of this 4 day holiday (in Sweden) and I will enjoy both gardening and art gallery visits.

In the Orangerie there is some amazing artists having their exhibits, in my dreams this beautiful building would be a permanent Gallery & Café.

Enjoy the rest of your Easter weekend, Per!

Digging flowerbeds and making bargains

The weather was fairly warm and sunny yesterday so I started to dig more flowerbeds in the "formal" part of the garden, on the north side of the house.

The hours of sun here are many and the beds will be protected from the nothern winds by the Snowberry bushes. I have already dug the West bed late last fall to be able to put down the plants I got in the Fall sales at the Garden Nurseries, plus a lot of spring bulbs.
North Bed done, the corner where I will plant a Japanese Cherry bush and have some water feature for the sound. I have also started with the East bed. There was A LOT of roots from the Snowberry bushes in the ground, and when I can afford it I will put down some steel edge towards the bushes.
The Grass bits I got did I move to the north side of my barn where I'm planning shadow flowerbeds.
The grass I put where the new walking paths will be.
Towards the rockwall will I plant Fern, and towards the lower right corner is the border to the neighbor and there I put all the roots from the Snowberry bush in the ground, and they will hopefully grow as a border.
In the flowerbed to the left (that will get bigger and ovalish) will I plant Rhododendron, bushes and shadowplants.

Besides this, it's moving along in my garden.
The Rhubarbs I found hidden away on the other side of the stream and took away the weed from, have started their beautiful journey, Love it!

I took of the protection from the Roses facing south & west and hope they will thrive now when it gets warmer.
Here New Dawn:
And here Ilse Krohn

The Tortoiseshell Butterfly is a welcome guest in my garden :D

Today it was northenly winds, and despite the sun a little bit chilly.
Perfect day to visit the first Garden Center opening up for the season: "Fredriksson's Plant" in Östhammar, just a short busride away.
AND 50% OFF last years plants, sounded very good for a new garden owner with a blank canvas (could be a expensive adventure otherwise).

For $100usd/650Skr did I get these perennial 11 plants, fantastic!

Climbing Hydrangea-Hortensia (large plant to the left), a Rhododenron Yakushimanum "Fantastica", Alumroot-Alunrot, Black Snakeroot-Höstsilerax, Hollyhock-Stockros, Creeping Thyme-Backtimjan, Plantain Lily-Brokfunkia, 2xCat mint-Kantnepeta, Mexican Giant Hyssop-Anisört & Plantain Lily-Daggfunkia,
Until the weather allow me to plant them, they will live upon the second floor of my barn.

As always, I enjoy a good Fika, and what better way to do it but with the latest issue of the garden magazine "Allt om Trädgård" :D

Now I'm heading off to the nearby town of Tierp where it's "Pelargonium Gorge" in the Library with Upplands Pelargonium Society, Great Fun!

New home for New Dawn, Saving Rhubarbs & making Ramson Pesto

Yet another great day before the cold weather are back!

The pallet collar that I oiled yesterday are dry and put in place around the Garlic Rossi di Sulmona from Gourmet Garage

Continued the preparations for the Rose and Peony flower bed, digging deeper holes for where the larger plants will be placed later.
 Filled the holes with soil
Covered the ground with barksheets that let the water through, made a opening for the deeper parts
I covered the wood with plastic & The Climbing Rose New Dawn is the first down.
 Filled with more soil
I trimmed the plastic and voila, New Dawn in the New Home

On the other side of the road/stream are the old areas for vegetable gardens, with two of my Black Currant bushes. Between them and I are a area where I struck gold ;)
Rhubarb Buds was sticking up through the weed here and there :D
After hours of work, taking away loads of weed like the horrible "Ground Elder/Kirskål" a nice bed for the Rhubarb!
I know there will be much more work weeding in the future, but after checking this season how the Rhubarb grows I will cover all areas around with Bark sheets to make it easier next year.

My friends Susanne & Evy here in the village made me aware that the 1st Ramson/Ramslök in the English Park is ready for harvest.
I went there at once, and ohh, they where everywhere :D
I picked large leaves and filled a bag, and took the bicycle home with the gold.
My own recepie is with Ramson, Almond, Chili & Olive oil!
The day brought the Best in the end: Ramson Pesto, Yum :9

Hope Your Friday is as good :D
Per!
